THEORY & PRACTICE
During spring cleaning, the thought of throwing away stuff might enter your mind. That’s probably not a good idea, since the guys behind Theory & Practice haven’t graduated yet and had time to shape your consumer habits.
In a future where waste equals food, not neccesarily the kind you eat but nutrition for the Earth or new products, the power to change the world lies in the hands of designers such as Fredrik Ohlén and Erik Rosin at Beckmans College of Design. These gentlemen founded T&P as a collaboration platform for likeminded designers and have so far done a number of upcycling projects.
“We have a vision of our design as a part of a greater cycle, where we create things of other’s residue, and our things can become nurishment for other parts of the cycle in the form of reusable, recyclable or compostable material.”
When asked what to do with one of Sweden’s most thrown away objects, the milk carton, Ohlén and Rosin points out its suitable shape and material for cultivation in an urban environment, as well as highlighting the benefits of locally produced food, self sustaining cities and guerilla gardening.
“We really believe in this ongoing green revolution, that requires nothing more than a few seeds to take off.”

THIS IS HEAD
From Malmö, Sweden’s third largest city comes This Is Head, a five-piece avant-garde indie-pop band who are becaming one of the most acclaimed acts in Sweden this spring. Their hometown is known for a growing experimental scene, where creative heads meet to indulge in all things great of an about an upcoming DIY scene.
The buzz around This Is Head started in 2008, soon after, that they got picked up by the Swedish Adrian Recordings, a label shared by other indie acts like The Bear Quartet, Familjen, Dmitry Fyodorv.
It was never Adam Jacobsson’s, Henric Claesson’s, Bjorn Wiking’s and Tom Malmros intention to form a band, but it happened and the results were good. In the industrial surroundings of Malmo City there grew an experimental pop band whose brilliant mix of new wave funk and kraut rock disco was adored by music fans all over.
This Is Head brings the Balearic pop, often associated with the Swedish indie scene, in a new direction, mixing alternative elements and psychedelic attitudes to create the innovative sound palette of This Is Head.

Lyrics and vocals are used sparingly. No lingo needed in this expressive combination of dreamy disco drums and spacey guitar.

THERE GOES THE NEIGHBORHOOD
Every girl has at least one pair of clogs growing up. You know, the one’s your mom totally regretted buying you after she realized how much noise clogs actually make, especially after they become your favorite shoes and you sleep in them?
Well, now thanks to Swedish designer Åsa Westlund us grownup girls have something high-heeled, leather, and sexy to clomp around in. Westlund’s shoes line, The Goes The Neighborhood has taken the traditional Swedish clog and revamped them into something new and trendy. The quality of the classic clog is still there, all of Westlund’s products are hand-painted and totally unique—think of them as foot art.
Her spring line consists of close-toed clogs painted with traditional Swedish kurbits-flowers and open-toed woven clunkers. There Goes The Neighborhood has something for everyone, from your hippie mom to your club-hopping sister, Westlund’s got you set.
The clogs are available at various boutiques around Sweden and by mail. Check out Åsa Westlund’s website for where to buy her products, past collections, and some shoe eye-candy.
