Adrian Recordings

It is a sort of miracle that Adrian Recording still exists. When Stefan Nordmark started the label in 1999, it was mainly because he wants to be able to release the debut album of his band Shariff. He also asked his friend Magnus Bjerkert if he could be in charge of the releases of his band David & The Citizens, in which he plays the trumpet.
Unfortunately, Adrian Recordings’ founder passes away shortly after the label’s creation. At this point it would have made sense to close the label down. But a twist of fate made it otherwise, “The first EP by David & the Citizens was all scheduled, so I thought that I just released that one and then put Adrian Recordings to rest”, Magnus Bjerkert explains. “But the EP did so well, and we played so much with David & The Citizens and we needed another release. So we did another EP, and after 2 EPs and numerous shows all over Scandinavia, we needed an album and all of a sudden I had taken over Adrian Recordings.”

Over the past decade, the Malmö-based label has released LPs and EPs of bands as influential as Björns vänner, Laakso and David & the Citizens. Today, a dozen of bands are signed on Adrian Recordings, including indie rock veterans The Bear Quartet, techno producers Dmitry Fyodorov, avant – garde indie pop group This Is Head, electropop performer Familjen and singer-song writer Emil Jensen.
What is striking at first about AR artists is how different from each other they are, which could be somehow bewildering for some and makes it in every case very hard for a journalist to label its musical identity.

But this diversity is completely assumed by Magnus Bjekert. “There is one specific tie between all the artists on Adrian Recordings”, he explains. “It’s all music that I love and would probably die for. But I doubt that you can find one more person in the world that loves all these artists as much as I do because I realize that it might be hard for some Emil Jensen’s fans to dig Dmitry Fyodorov and vice versa “.

As a matter of fact, AR is the type of label that has an indestructible faith in its artists and that strongly believes that each of them has the potential to reach a broad audience. Hence the choice of giving priorities to artists that are already signed on the label and giving them complete freedom in what they want to do. “What we must do now is to take care of the artists we have and make the best out of it. Witch won’t be too hard with all the creativity floating around.”

In the near future, AR will therefore bring out new albums of MF/MB, The Bear quartet and Dmitry Fyodorov, as well as EPs and singles of Familjen and Boeoes Kaelstigen. And if Adrian Recordings follows the same line it has always followed, one can legitimately expect to be nicely surprised by these releases. Once again.
